It's all about the food...
The Lions club of Tumby Bay & District is moving into a new era supporting their fund-raising activities. Funding from the South Australian Government will support the Lions Club of Tumby Bay & District in the purchase of a purpose-built food trailer to grow the club’s community contribution.
The Lions club’s application for financial support to have the fully equipped van was acknowledged as a community driven project in the latest round of funding under the SA Government’s Thriving Communities
program advice from Clare Scriven MLC, Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development.
The new purpose-built food van has been designed to provide a fully equipped kitchen, meeting all food handling regulations, with the versatility to cook the famous Tumby donuts as well as BBQ’s. Sausage sizzles and full meal catering.
Uppermost in the forward planning for this food catering van was the safety of the club's members. It has been of concern for some time that the temporary catering set-up’s that Lions have worked with is inherently dangerous.
The investment in this van will not only provide a safe working space for members but will also offer a greater scope to support community events.
Equipped with freezers, refrigeration, deep fryers, griddles and gas burners the van will provide preparation space for catering across all types of food requirements and is designed to be a support unit in times of emergency providing sustenance to first responders, backup and restoration crews.
The club will tailor the base unit with the installation of donut cookers, hot and cold water, wash-up and hand basin with the versatility to incorporate other equipment. Two stand-alone power generators will allow the van to be located wherever it is needed.
Manufacturer of the 13.9-meter van has started and is anticipated to be completed for delivery to Tumby Bay by late September.
